December 2011, ICARUS sweeps awards at the 12th GSNU Grand Prix for Airplane Design

KAIST Flight Research Team ICARUS, guided by Prof. Han, has won awards in CTOL (Grand Prize), VOTL (award for excellence), SCALE(award for excellence) section in the 12th GSNU National Model Airplane Design Competition.  Congraturations and keep up the good work!!!

December 2011, Prof. Han at SMN2011

Prof. Han attended 3rd international conference on Smart Materials and Nanotechnology in Engineering held in ShenZhen, China on 5-8th December, 2011. In the conference Prof. Han gave a presentation on “Enhanced shock and vibration isolator for the attenuation of low-frequency vibration and high-grequency pyroshock loads.” Prof. Han was also session organizer of the topic on “Damping Enhancement Using Smart and Nanocomposites.”

Three members of SSS Lab. have attended Asian-Pacific Vibration Conference held in Hong-Kong from December 5-8, 2011. The presentations given by SSS Lab. members are as follows. 1. Dong-Kyu Lee on “Calibration of Magnetic Suspension and Balance System Through Dynamic Load Estimation” 2. Jae-Won Park on “Sensitivity Analysis of Shunted Piezoelectric for Structural Damping” 3. October 2011, Prof. Han’s Invited Talk at KSME

On 2nd November, 2011, Prof. Han has delivered an invited talk on the “Applications of smart materials for dynamics and control” in the 2011 Fall Conference of The Korean Society for Mechanical Engineers (KSME).

On 7th October, 2011, Prof. Han has delivered a talk on invited on “Flight Dynamics Characteristics of Flapping Air Vehicles” at the workshop organized by the Pusan National University.

September 2011, Welcome New Members!

SSS Lab becomes one of the preferred destinations for the students across the world to carry out their research. For Fall 2011, 3 new members, Park, Gee-Yong for his Doctoral Studies, Marshal Deep Kafle from Nepal for his Masters and Ciro Farinelli, an exchange student from Politecnico di Milano, Italy for his Masters Thesis research, have joined the SSS Lab.

June 2011, Alumni visit

SSS lab’s alumni, Oh Seung-Hun and Yoo Eun-Jung visited the lab. It was great to see SSS lab members and learn how they are doing. Mr. Oh Seung-Hun has been featuring in MBC’s 신입사원 (a TV show in which announcers are auditioned for employment) and has become an announcer by being one of last three. Ms. Yoo Eun-Jung is currently working in Germany after finishing her Ph.D in TUM(Technische Universität München). Congratulations for your achievements and we hope for your bright future!!!

February 2011, Farewell for Dr. Kang, Lae-Hyong

SSS Lab has bid farewell for Dr. Kang, the longest serving member of SSS Lab till date. Dr. Kang joined SSS Lab in the year 2003 as a Masters Student with Prof. Han as his advisor and has continued working towards his Doctoral Degree till 2010 and later on served as the Post Doctoral Researcher. Dr. Kang is the first Masters student under Prof. Han. Dr. Kang has executed several key projects in SSS Lab and some of the biggest achievements of Dr. Kang include a hundred percent acceptance rate for all his works submitted for journal publications. Dr. Kang would now join Samsung Electronics in Suwon from March, 2011.
