We had a Graduation Ceremony on Feb.17 at KAIST. Congratulations on your well-deserved success, "Yeol-Hun"(Ph.D.), "Keum-Yong"(Ph.D.), "Hyeon-Ho"(M.S.), and "Ba-Woul"(M.S.) !! Reynolds and Yousaf ,members of the SSHS Lab, had Mid-Defense on his doctoral's thesis and Master's thesis, respectively. This took place on Feb. 23, 2021 at KAIST. The titles of their Theses are: "Experimental Study of Wing Flexibility Effect on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of Flapping-Wing Models" by Reynolds Addo-Akoto. "Dynamic Stability and Flight Control of Biomimetic Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle based on Multibody Dynamics" by MUHAMMAD YOUSAF BHATTI Andrew, Member of the SSHS lab, had his doctoral dissertation mid-defense on May 14, 2021. The title of his dissertation was: "A Study on Deep Learning Based Automated Aerial Docking System" by Andrew Jaeyong Choi. Prof. Jae-Hung Han and two students, Ba-Woul Chung and Keon-Ik Jang attended "Korean Society for Noise and Vibration Engineering Annual Spring Conference 2021 (KSNVE 2021)" held at Pyeongchang from May. 26 to 28, 2021. "Shock reduction technique on a thin plate structure using elastic patch," by D.H Hwang, J.-H. Han The followings are the title of presentations: "Development of Meter-scale Tape Spring Deployable Structure for Nanosatellites," by B.-W Chung, T.-H Kim, J-E. Suh and J.-H. Han Reynolds and Yousaf ,members of the SSHS Lab, had Final-Defense on his doctoral's thesis and Master's thesis, respectively. This took place on June. 14, 2021 at KAIST. "Dynamic Stability and Flight Control of Biomimetic Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle based on Multibody Dynamics" by MUHAMMAD YOUSAF BHATTI Jong-Eun Suh had Ph.D. Dissertation Mid-Defense on June. 16, 2021. The titles of dissertations: "Study on the origami-based reconfigurable tubular structure" "2021 KASA Spring Conference" held at Samcheok, Gangwon-do from July 7 to 9, 2021. The followings are titles of presentation: "Trajectory Optimization of Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle in Longitudinal Plane," by S.-G Lee, H.-H Yang, Muhammad Yousaf Bhatti, and J.-H. Han. "Multibody Dynamics Simulation based Optimal Flight Contrl of bioinspired FWMAV," Muhammad Yousaf Bhatti, S.-G Lee, H.-H Yang, and J.-H. Han. "Wing Kinematics Search of Rectangular Flapping-Wing Model for Maximum Lift and Lift/Drag Ratio," by H.-H Yang, S.-G Lee, Muhammad Yousaf Bhatti, and J.-H. Han. On Aug. 10, 2021, two SSHS Lab members had their mid-defense on their Master's thesis. The titles of their dissertations were: "Dynamic stability and Trajectory Optimization of Transition Flight of Flapping-wing Micro Air Vehicles by Sang-Gil Lee. "A Vision-Based Active Evasive Maneuver System for Mid-Air Collision Avoidance of UAVs" by Jeong-Hwan Park. We had a Conferral of Degree Ceremony on Aug.31 at KAIST. Congratulations on your well-deserved success, "Reynolds Addo-Akoto"(Ph.D.) and "Muhammad Yousaf Bhatti"(M.S.) !! Because of COVID-19, we couldn't have a Graduate Ceremony. Your undying hope and strength to credit Ph.D. degree and Master's degree have finally come true. Congratulations for earning the degrees. Sending you wishes and blessings for the career prospects. Marshal Deep Kafle (former student at SSHS Lab.) completed his Ph.D at University of Waterloo, Canada and started his academic career (Postdoctoral Research Associate) at UCLA Jeong-Hwan Park won "Award - Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy" at the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) Awards which was held on Oct. 21, 2021, at ADEX 2021 and three members of SSHS Lab attended at ADEX 2021. Title: A Vision-Based Active Avoidance Maneuver System for Mid-Air Collision Avoidance of UAVS Congratulation! Andrew Jaeyoung Choi participated in the ICAS honored Research Pitch Competition and was selected as the Final Winner! Andrew Jaeyong Choi had Ph.D. final Defense on Nov. 03, 2021. The titles of dissertations: "A Study on Deep Learning based Automated Aerial Docking System" Kailash Dhital had Ph.D. final Defense on Nov. 09, 2021. The titles of dissertations: "Aerodynamic Interaction and Structural Coupling Effects on the Aeroelastic Behavior of Lifting Surfaces in Proximity" On Nov. 3, 2021, "The First Wednesday Multidisciplinary Forum" was held via Zoom (Online) Prof. Jae-Hung Han gave a lecture about "Artificial Intelligence Technology in Aerospace" Prof. Jae-Hung Han and nine students attended "2021 KASA Autumn Conference" held at Jeju, from Nov. 17 to 19, 2021. The followings are titles of presentation: "A Vision-Based Active Avoidance Manueuver System for Mid-Air Collision Avoidance of UAVs." by Jeonghwan Park, Andrew Jaeyoung Choi and Jae-Hung Han. "Unsteady Aerodynamics Measurement Test for Validation of Aerodynamic Model of Flapping Wing Air Vehicle." by Yu-Jeong Han, Hyeon-Ho Yang, Eun-Hyuck Lee, and Jae-Hung Han. "Performance Analysis of Crash Tube with Origami Pattern." by Young-Ha Hwang, Leonardo Marconi, and Jae-Hung Han. Prof. Jae-Hung Han and three students, attended "Korean Society for Noise and Vibration Engineering Annual Autumn Conference 2021 (KSNVE 2021)" held at Jeju from Nov. 24 to 26, 2021. The followings are the title of presentations: "Effect of Thickness on the Aeroelastic Behavior of Closely Coupled Airfoils." by Kailash Dhital, J.-H. Han "Performance test of bellows 3-parameter isolator." by B.-W Chung, T.-H Kim, J-E. Suh and J.-H. Han On Nov. 30, 2021, Ali had final-defense on his Master's thesis. The titles of their dissertations were: "Design of a Deployable Optical Payload for Cubesat platform" by Ali Mohamed AlZaabi. Jong-Eun Suh had Ph.D. Dissertation Final-Defense on Dec. 08, 2021. The titles of dissertations: "Study on the origami-based reconfigurable tubular structure" Sang-Gil Lee, and Jeong-Hwan Park, members of the SSHS Lab, had Final-Defense on their Master's thesis, respectively. This took place on Dec. 20, 2021, at KAIST. The titles of their dissertations were: "A Vision-Based Active Evasive Maneuver System for Mid-Air Collision Avoidance of UAVs" by Jeong-Hwan Park. "Dynamic stability and Trajectory Optimization of Transition Flight of Flapping-wing Micro Air Vehicles by Sang-Gil Lee. On December 21, the Department of Aerospace Engineering hosted the Air and Space KAIST 2021 ceremony. Ba-Woul Jeong was presented with the Teaching Assistant Excellence Award. Yeol-hoon Sung received the Creative Research Award.
